This is an absolutely fantastic marking gauge. It is has great registration against the edge of your boards and leaves a crisp line without wandering along with the grain. It does what you want it to do. I also have the Hamilton panel gauge and wow!, it's fantastic as well. Can't go wrong with these additions to your toolbox.

Native Americans used to purposely flaw their art out of respect of 'the gods'. The idea being that only 'those above' were perfect... I ordered a 6" Hamilton marking gauge with a special request; to add a pencil hole like my Hamilton panel gauge has. The request was met with a quick 'can-do' response and the subsequent pictures verified the Master was hard at work and doing well. Fast forward to receiving the custom gauge, and, I was speechless. Right out of the box the tool felt right. Candidly, I could not put it down. I kept admiring the fine work in every detail - and as a Machinist / Model Maker I'm pretty good at finding flaws. The fit, finish, how it feels in and hand - all SPOT ON. I quickly loaded a pencil and went to work marking then flipped over to the thumbnail blade and marked some more. Again, all functions SPOT ON! Mr. Hamilton needs to purposely flaw his products lest he anger 'those above'. They'll still be as close to perfect as we humans can get. Well done, indeed!
It's a great tool and does the job, however the "black walnut looks more like a "Caro walnut". It is nowhere near the "rich nor luxurious" as described in your add.
