Replacement blade for the 4" and 6" Hamilton Marking Gauges. The blade is made from 1095 Spring Steel, heat and cryo treated to a hardness of Rockwell 60-62. It features a finger nail grind that is designed to cut across the grain as well as with the grain. It also helps to keep the fence tight against the work surface providing a very accurate and true reference line. This is not a replacement blade for the panel gauge.
There's not a lot to say about a replacement blade. The original worked very well. needed to replace it after the edge got a big ding. The best part of this transaction was the quick delivery. I ordered it on a Saturday. I received shipping notification on Sunday. Great customer service!
These blades seem reasonably priced to me. They hold their edge well. The only issue I've had is that I can't seem to re-hone them myself. Jeff gave me some pointers, but I haven't been able to duplicate the edge of a new blade. That's obviously on me and not a negative comment on the quality of the blade. I have purchased a couple of marking gauges and multiple replacement blades and would highly recommend both.
I love my Hamilton 6" cutting gauge and purchased the extra blade as a spare just to have it- the blade is superb!
